GOVERNING RULES OF THE SOCIETY

MEMBERSHIP, SHARES AND SUBSCRIPTIONS
















 

5. (a)

Members of the Society shall be persons aged 18 years and over and who if they became members before 31st July 1984 hold at least one share in the Society. Persons becoming members after 31st July 1984 shall be required to hold at least four shares in the Society.

 
(b)

 
Associates of the Society shall be persons over 14 years of age other than members who shall pay an annual subscription to the Society as determined under Rule 21(e), save that a reduction of fifty per cent shall apply to persons aged under 18 years and a reduction of twenty percent shall apply to persons over 60..

 
(c)

 
Honorary Members of the Society shall be persons, other than members or associates, who pay no annual subscription and shall be entitled to all the rights and privileges and subject to the same conditions excluding Rule 12 of a member. Honorary membership shall not be available by application and may be granted by resolution of the Executive Committee to any person other than a member of the Executive Committee at the time of the resolution, who gives substantial support to the Society subject to the number of honorary members at any one time not exceeding ten per cent of the number of members of the Society.

 
(d)

 
Family Associates of the Society shall be the nominated spouse and children under 18 years of a Member or Associate who shall pay a combined annual subscription to the Society as determined under Rule 21(e) save that a reduction of fifty percent shall apply where husband and wife are both members.

Shares shall be of the value of £5 each and shall be transferable but not with-drawable. All transfers of shares shall be subject to the consent of the Executive Committee and shall be made in the form provided in the Appendix to these rules and shall upon completion be registered in the register of members.

No member may hold more than 2000 shares.

Shares may not be held in the name of more than one person.

A member shall cease to be a member if he shall transfer all his shares or if through resignation or for any other reason whatsoever he ceases to hold any share in the Society.

Members shall pay annual subscription as determined under Rule 21(c) to the Society save that a reduction of twenty per cent shall apply to persons aged over 60 years which shall entitle them to such privileges and facilities as the Executive thinks fit including one free copy of any publications produced in accordance with Rule 3(e) and such publications shall be despatched free of charge to each member's address as registered in the Society's records.

Associates shall also be entitled to receive the benefits provided for mem­bers in accordance with Rule 10, except that any benefits which by necessity must be withheld from persons aged below 18 years shall not apply to associates below that age.

Family Associates shall be entitled to receive the benefits provided for members in accordance with Rule 10 except the right to receive one free copy of any publication produced in accordance with Rule 3(e) or notices convening General Meetings and annual reports and statements of accounts under Rule 24 and except that any benefits which by necessity must be withheld from persons aged below 18 years shall not apply to family associates below that age.
