A FEW BITS AND BOBS

Ben Jackson, our Chairman, sends the following:

A few bits and bobs...

Early indicators are that the Half Term Opening days were the best attended for at least 5-years with over 1,000 visitors over the two Sundays and the Wednesday. This despite a bitterly cold first Sunday!

PTS Reminder - For anybody with an out of date PTS card or anybody requiring a first card. There will be a course running at 11:30am in the Oxford Room on Wednesday 22nd March - please let Adrian Aylward know you are planning on attending or if you need/want to participate but cannot make the date.

Easter Day out with Thomas - if you have yet to offer to take a role over the 4-days of Easter please let the office know of your availability - there is always something to be done on these busy days.

The next Executive meeting is on the 18th of March, please submit any matters for the Executive in writing, by 5pm on the 10th of March so it can be placed on the Agenda. The Hon Sec's tray in the copier room is a good place to leave such things!

Ben Jackson
Chair, QRS

WORK WEEK

I take this opportunity to remind you that Work Week this year is just days away now. It starts on Saturday 18th March and concludes on Sunday 26th March. Every member is more than welcome to attend on one or more (even all) the days as there is always a myriad of tasks needing attention before we open our Railway Centre for the main season. And, yes, there are some of us that will be there every day...

Whatever your fancy, your preferred skill level or your interest a suitable task WILL be found for you. Come and join us if only to meet others in a more relaxed and talkative frame of mind. There is a very different social atmosphere during Work Week as we are closed to our visitors. Things get done that can't be done as safely with the public around such as moving large lumpy things.

The PTS course mentioned above by Ben will happen on the Wednesday of Work Week - no, its not a coincidence!

QUAINTON EMAIL LETTER 6.3.17

ON SITE SECURITY

This has come in from our Chairman:

"There have been incidents of both vehicular and pedestrian gates being left unlocked overnight and this puts at risk of theft the Society's and Private Owners collections.

Would members please ensure that the gates are locked when they are the last ones off the site, if you don't have your keys with you then liaise with a member who does - there are those around who will take such an opportunity and use it to relieve us of valuable items! If there are on-going incidents then we will have to take steps to up the security and this means resources are taken from elsewhere and also that potentially members are increasingly inconvenienced.

Ben Jackson
Chair QRS"

Regular readers of QEL will know that this has been a recurring theme over several years now. In previous years it has been difficult to find out who isn't locking the gates but we have an increasing number of security cameras now to help protect our collections. As an Accredited Museum we have an increased duty of care for our collection which we take seriously.

HOT LUNCHES

During the closed winter months there is a hot lunch available on Sundays - provided you get your name on the list by 11.00 am each Sunday. Next Sunday, 12th March, this facility will NOT be available so you will need to bring your own packed lunch. Microwaves and kettles are available in both the Up and Down Yard messrooms should you wish.

WORK WEEK LUNCHES

A hot lunch will be available every day of Work Week this year which starts on Saturday 18th March and concludes on Sunday 26th March. Once again, I am very pleased to say, our member Steve Wood will be cooking for us Monday to Friday during Work Week. This is Steve's annual contribution to us and it is very welcome. However, as before, you need to get your name on the list by 11.00 am each day. This can be done at elevenses - oh, yes, elevenses, a lovely institution with tea or coffee and a slice of something delectable that helps to mark out Work Week as a bit different - and yes, we get tiffin in the afternoon, too! Come and join us, there is much to be done!
