QUAINTON EMAIL LETTER 11.01.17

WORK WEEK DATES

This year's Work Week will be held from Saturday 18th March till Sunday 26th March 2017 and presents a great opportunity to get the Centre ready for the coming season, to crack on with tasks best accomplished without our visitors and to meet other members you may not normally meet. A hot lunch is available each day with the usual need to book yourself in by 11am. Whilst some of us attend for the entire 9 days it isn't mandatory!

Different members attend for anything from single days onwards but all are welcome and a job will be found for all. If you are a newer member its a good way to meet many of us in a more relaxed way - and the weather is frequently good! We are on site from at least 9am each day. Just turn up and pop your head in the Office.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO SERVE ON OUR EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE?

With the Quainton Railway Society Limited's (QRS) Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for the 22nd of April 2017 members are reminded of the following requirements of the Rules of the Quainton Railway Society Limited;

The 2017 AGM will be conducted in-line with Rule 21 and will include all elements detailed under parts a to f inclusive, with the exception that members questions will be responded to provided they are submitted in writing to the Hon Sec and received no later than 8th April 2016. In accordance with Rule 27 - any members wishing a resolution to be considered at the AGM must submit this in writing to the Hon Secretary by no later than January 31st.

Any members wishing to be considered for election to the Executive under Rule 31 must ensure that the Hon Secretary has their signed nomination form and a signed statement of willingness to stand by January 31st (Forms are available from the Membership Secretary in the Office or click <Here> to download a copy).

This last year has seen the Executive operate at below full strength which places a heavier burden on those in place and results in a slower pace of activity. Please note that Exec meetings are roughly every 6-weeks, on Saturday mornings, plus participation in other sub-committees, events, functions, focused task groups and training will be required as and when appropriate. The current Chairman is more than happy to have a chat on the phone, or on-site with anyone considering stepping forward. Initial contact can be made by phoning the Office on 01296 655 720

So how does one foster the serious good intentions of members to join the Executive Committee (also known as The Trustees)? I suppose that the unique position that we now find ourselves in with regard to East-West Rail and HS2 means that we must appeal to members that can contribute to our skills base in the best way that they will be needed because there is no mistaking, from a certain point, when things do begin to rumble our world will change drastically, and the members need to be very much aware of that. Not lots of 'if only's'.

So, dear reader, can you help? Do you have ideas and skills that could be beneficial to our Committee? Could you help forge our path into the future?

Editors note: Text given in red provide direct links to the items mentioned. More details are available on our <home> page.

GETTING A NEW SOFA OR SETTEE?

Are you replacing your sofa / settee? Are you throwing away the old one?

I need just 3 settee cushions please, the pattern and threadbare condition is of no consequence as I need to lay, horizontally, an externally restored carriage door to restore the interior side without damaging the finished outside and 3 cushions would be ideal to protect it. You are welcome to have them back afterwards, complete with added "patina" of old paint and dirt...! Please contact Tony Lyster either on site most weekends or on 07766 461 321 or on lystertony7@gmail.com Thank you.
